I know the Sheriff's Office has been raising the need for sustained investments, and I appreciate that public focus on department capacity. My ask today is that the Sheriff commit to a clear, public policy that Dane County Jail staff will not honor ICE detainer requests or use county resources to support federal immigration enforcement beyond what state law requires. Immigrant families in our community, including right here in the Town of Oregon, are scared right now, and local trust in law enforcement depends on people knowing that reporting a crime or calling for help won't put their neighbors at risk of deportation. This is squarely within the Sheriff's own authority over jail and detainer policy, it doesn't require state or federal action. Can the Sheriff's office confirm this policy is in place, or commit to adopting and publishing one? Thank you for your time and for the Sheriff's service to Dane County.
